Principal's Corner
Dear Muir Families,
On behalf of our entire school community, I’m excited to welcome you to Muir Elementary—home of the Jaguars! Muir is a vibrant, collaborative neighborhood school committed to nurturing the academic and social-emotional growth of every child.
We are especially proud to be one of the few schools in the country where students can walk to elementary, middle, and high school all within the same neighborhood. This unique continuity helps us foster strong relationships and a true sense of belonging for all students and families.
At Muir, our daily work is grounded in our Core Values:
BE Here – I value my school
We take care of our learning environment, show up ready to learn, and help make Muir a safe
and joyful place.
BE You – I value myself
We celebrate who we are, take care of ourselves, and make choices that help us grow into our
best selves.
BElong – I value my community
We care for one another, build positive relationships, and ensure everyone feels welcome and
supported.
These values are rooted in our Equity Vision:
We hold a collective responsibility to disrupt racist practices, promote equity in academic and social-emotional experiences, and uphold educational justice. All will be seen, cared for, and connected within our community to ensure excellence.
Beyond academics, Muir provides enriching experiences that support the whole child. Annual events such as the Muir Mile, Staff Olympics, Muireka, Literacy Night, Multicultural Night, Read Your Heart Out, and Fine Arts Day bring our students, staff, and families together to celebrate learning, identity, and community.
We are also fortunate to have open green space, an outdoor classroom, and a school garden—all of which support hands-on learning across subjects and related arts. These spaces offer students meaningful ways to engage with academics, the environment, and one another.
We LOVE when families and community members volunteer to support learning at Muir! Volunteering is a powerful way to connect with our school and make a difference. To begin the process, visit: https://www.madison.k12.wi.us/partnerships/volunteering
We are also deeply grateful for the support of our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), which meets every 1–2 months and plays an essential role in strengthening our school community. Learn more and get involved by visiting: https://muir.ptboard.com/
We’re thrilled to partner with you for a joyful and successful year. Together, we will continue to make Muir Elementary a place where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to thrive.
Warmly,
Stacey Starke
